I ordered a bunch of boring bars the other day, but before I could use them I needed to figure out how to clamp them in the AXA holder. So how do you hold a 1/2″ boring bar with a holder designed for 3/4″ bars? With a sleeve of course. Sleeves are very easy to make; all you need is a lathe & a bandsaw.
My QCTP came with this 3/4″ boring bar holder but I have never used it.
I have purchased several sanding blocks over the years, and I’ve never found one that I really liked. I had some extra maple laying around the shop, so I turned it into 2 sanding blocks. They are 6-1/2″ long & 2-3/8″ wide. The top and bottom halves are held together with a 1/4″-20 bolt, and a custom knurled nut. The most time consuming step was using the belt sander, to give the tops a gentle arch. The following are some pics of the model & a finished block.
Finally I have carbide tooling that I can use when I turn harder materials, something I find myself doing more often lately. While visiting family in central Pa. I stopped by grizzly and picked up a set of Glanze 12mm tool holders. I took the following videos while I was trying out some inserts i purchased.
